Why does a cooling tower need a qualified chemist?

Cooling towers are one of the highest-risk water systems in any industrial or commercial facility. Poorly managed water chemistry creates the conditions for Legionella growth, accelerated corrosion and scale buildup that degrades efficiency, shortens equipment life and poses a risk to human health.

We don't just run routine tests. We interpret what the chemistry is telling us about your system's condition, adjust dosing programs in response to changing conditions, and identify problems before they become compliance failures, unplanned shutdowns or public health incidents.

We also prepare Legionella risk management plans, the foundation of every compliant cooling tower in NSW, so your plan, your testing and your treatment program all come from the same qualified source.

For any facility running a cooling tower, the question isn't whether you need that level of expertise. It is whether you currently have it.

What does cooling tower water treatment include?

Supierz Water can:

  • Prepare your Legionella risk management plan (RMP), and review it as your system or regulations change.
  • Meet your compliance obligations, including testing, monthly Form 3 reports and documentation.
  • Conduct site visits to undertake sampling, testing and chemical dosing.
  • Manage and adjust your dosing regimen.
  • Review laboratory results and undertake urgent remedial response if needed, in accordance with regulatory obligations.
  • Decontaminate and disinfect cooling towers when required.

Common questions

How often does a cooling tower need to be tested in NSW?

Under the NSW Public Health Regulation 2022, each cooling tower must be sampled and tested every month for Legionella and heterotrophic colony count (HCC). Your risk management plan will also set out routine on-site checks of the water chemistry and treatment.

What happens if a cooling tower returns a high Legionella result?

In NSW, a Legionella result of 1,000 cfu/mL or more, or an HCC of 5,000,000 cfu/mL or more, must be reported to council within 24 hours. We support you through the notification, carry out the remedial treatment the system needs, such as decontamination and dosing changes, and retest to confirm the system is back under control.
